I *think* (but am not positive) that the combination of GNU tar 1.13.19
and Amanda 2.4.2p2 takes care of this. Is that an option for you?

You can build Amanda with -DIGNORE_TAR_ERRORS, but you'll have to watch
it carefully to make sure valid errors don't sneak through.
I would think an exclusion pattern of "./net" (and 1.13.19) would solve
this, though.

That would be the correct entry, but I think earlier versions of GNU
tar botched it anyway.

It's a full abort. Amanda thinks the backup failed, so it throws it away.
