I ran "tapetype" just two days ago with a very similar configuration.

The tape drive is a Sony SDX-400C with a SDX1-35C tape.  Here were the
results with hardware compression turned off.


define tapetype AIT-SDX1-35C {
    length 33280 mbytes
    filemark 0 kbytes
    speed 4062 kps
}

The only difference should be the speed.  I don't think the above
would have changed your tape error listed below but you may find it
useful.
