hi all, mostly for redhat users and the search engine and faq.
redhat 7.2 running on an ibm netfinity 3000 server with an ibm travan drive oem'd by seagate. controller is an adaptec aha-2940uw running a proprietary ibm bios. results varied from other posts for the stt20000n. additionally, i ran into some issues with redhat 7.2 with respect to the non-rewinding non-compressing device name for st0: ./tapetype -f /dev/st0m wrote 308034 32Kb blocks in 942 files in 14776 seconds (short write) wrote 307581 32Kb blocks in 1887 files in 16872 seconds (short write) define tapetype unknown-tapetype { comment "just produced by tapetype program" length 9639 mbytes filemark 15 kbytes speed 625 kps } as i mentioned, redat didn't work rightaway with /dev/st0m, so i had to to provide a stinit.def in /etc and then ran stinit from rc.local: manufacturer=Seagate model="STT20000N" revision="7A61" { scsi2logical=1 can-bsr can-partitions auto-lock mode1 blocksize=0 compression=1 mode2 blocksize=1024 compression=1 mode3 blocksize=0 compression=0 mode4 blocksize=1024 compression=0 } have other redhat users found problems with the /dev mknod names delivered with the distribution? cheers christopher cuse i'm working on bandwidth conservation now that most tuna are dolphin safe
