The point is that there's no "religion" about this issue any more.  If
you're not using the systems already tested and described in the paper
then you get the tools (they're still available too, though they are
also realtively easily reproduce using the descriptions in the paper)
and you test what you have.  The results should be entirely scientific
(unless you deviate in your procedures and mess up your measurements).
