My first thought would be what is in your .amandahosts file? You still need to have it set up correctly. It sounds like you don't have root or the amanda user in it...

I've been trying to get our restore procedure setup, and now I'm at the
point where I eed to restore a file and can't get it done.

At first, all connections to the server using amrecover were refused. I
found a few setup issues that have been corrected:

1) At Amanda did not set up the amidxtape and amandaidx services for xinetd.
I redid the file to include those services

2) The backup user was listed as the owner for amrecover. I changed it to
root.

Now I can start amrecover, make the initial connection and set up parameters
like working date, host, and tape, but when I entered "extract" here was the
result:

-----------------------------------------
amrecover> extract

Extracting files using tape drive /dev/nst0 on host eagle.
The following tapes are needed: weekly01

Restoring files in to directory /var
Continue? (Y/n): Y

Load tape weekly01 now
Continue? (Y/n): Y
cannot connect to eagle: Connection refused
amrecover - can't talk to tape server
amrecover> quit
200 Good bye
------------------------------------------

Eagle is both the client and the server in this case.

Any ideas on what I need to do to get the process to complete? Thanks!
