I have a FAT partition on a system that will not get backed up incrementally. Full backups are done on the partition every time. The partition is mounted on a linux RedHat 8.0 system. It is mounted read/write. It needs to be a FAT partition because the user is using it for running Windows 2000 via VMWare.
Is there a problem with incremental backups on FAT partitions? I searched with google and found some references to some problems, but no real explanations or solutions. Can somebody explain what is going on and how to work around the problem? Would one solution be to backup the partition with SAMBA rather than the standard amanda client? According to the SAMBA document it should do incremental backups. Any help is greatly appreciated.
