If your changer is on the same ID, different LUN from your tape drive, 
then you'll need to recompile the kernel.

It's really not too bad.  Check out the Kernel-HOWTO at 
<http://www.ibiblio.org/mdw/>.  RedHat keeps the config files it uses in 
/usr/src/linux-VERS/configs.  Load one of those using 'make xconfig', 
enable "Scan all LUNS" in SCSI support, and off you go.
