backup with exclude

Hi,
I've read some tread on the hacker newsgroup and I've found that someone
talks about the option exclude to exclude more then one pattern.
I'd like to exclude from backup some type of file, such mp3 avi divx, but I
didn't find the end of the tread, did anybody solved this problem?
