I was under the impression that these were kept for tapecycle number of runs, so to have all of the 200306xx files go missing without amanda noticeing also surprised me.
No they are kept AMANDA_DEBUG_DAYS number of days, default 4.
To find out your number do:
amadmin X version | grep AMANDA_DEBUG_DAYS
That is an option at configure time:
./configure --prefix=... --with-debug-days=4
