Jesus how could this happen!! I was going to recover the /usr/local directory that i backup up earlier. I forgot to move to a new empty test directory and I issued the extract command on my /root directory. For my despair, before the tar begins to extract the backup files, it simply deleted ALL /root contents, and did it without issuing any question!! AAAAHHHHHHH HELP!!! HEELLLPPPPP!!!!
How can amanda function this way? why doesn´t it simply overwrite the existing files, as is the common "tar -xtvz" behaviour. See bellow the shameless tar messages about "cleaning up" all my /root directory!!: ./ tar: Deleting `./install.log' tar: Deleting `./install.log.syslog' tar: Deleting `./.gconfd' tar: Deleting `./.bash_logout' tar: Deleting `./.Xresources' tar: Deleting `./anaconda-ks.cfg' tar: Deleting `./.bash_profile' tar: Deleting `./.bashrc' tar: Deleting `./.cshrc' tar: Deleting `./.tcshrc' tar: Deleting `./.gtkrc' tar: Deleting `./.gconf' tar: Deleting `./.gnome' tar: Deleting `./.gnome2' tar: Deleting `./.gnome2_private' tar: Deleting `./.Xauthority' tar: Deleting `./.nautilus' tar: Deleting `./.gnome-desktop' tar: Deleting `./.ICEauthority' tar: Deleting `./.gtkrc-1.2-gnome2' tar: Deleting `./.fonts.cache-1' tar: Deleting `./.metacity' tar: Deleting `./.rhn-applet.conf' tar: Deleting `./.esd_auth' tar: Deleting `./.xauthnOkAMC' tar: Deleting `./.gftp' tar: Deleting `./.bash_history' tar: Deleting `./pacotes' tar: Deleting `./.ssh' tar: Deleting `./perl' tar: Deleting `./COMANDOS_DE_REDE' tar: Deleting `./mbox' tar: Deleting `./sh' tar: Deleting `./.mozilla' tar: Deleting `./.cpan' tar: Deleting `./.viminfo' tar: Deleting `./.gnupg' tar: Deleting `./zz-vim1' tar: Deleting `./usr' tar: Deleting `./comandos-legais' tar: Deleting `./INSTALACAO-DO-CURSES.PM' tar: Deleting `./amanda-2.4.4p1.tar.gz' tar: Deleting `./.xauthTagUCD' tar: Deleting `./zz-vim2' tar: Deleting `./.Trash' ./bin/ ./doc/ ./etc/ ./games/ ./include/ ./lib/ (and the backup extraction continued....)
