+----[ To Toomas Aas <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (13.Oct.2004 16:26): | [snipped]
| | Further, the directory listing below shows that files owned by operator | | are dated Sep 28, whereas files owned by amanda are dated Sep 30. | | | | This leads me to think that you have somehow made two installations on | | top of each other, first one without specifying AMANDA_USER on Sep 28 | | and second one by specifying AMANDA_USER=amanda on Sep 30. Do you have | | FORCE_PKG_REGISTER in /etc/make.conf? | | No, I don't have FORCE_PKG_REGISTER set. And yes, though, I | don't remember well, it is possible that I installed first | without setting AMANDA_USER (defaulted to operator) and then | installed again, now setting AMANDA_USER to the value I wanted. | | | Probably easiest way to get everything working correctly would be | | pkg_deleting the Amanda ports and installing them again. However, if | | the permissions of some files to be deleted are not what the ports | | system expects, it may still leave them behind. So make sure you get | | them before doing another install. | | | +----] | | OK. I'll make sure to remove everything before reinstalling. | | Thanks for the suggestion! | +----] For the record, I have removed everything and reinstalled and everything is working. The confusion was mine. In FreeBSD there are two amanda ports: amanda-server and amanda-client, since the server needs also to be configured as a client, I installed the amanda-client port on top of the amanda-server port (which, by itself also includes the 'client' part ... this I didn't know). This would have been harmless ... but seems like I forgot to set AMANDA_USER=amanda in the second install.
