From this I guess your tape is defined as having a capacity of 5 Gbyte. What kind of tape is that? I'm not familiar with any tape device with such a capacity.

And here I see the tape got into trouble after wriging about 10 Mbyte. A "short write" could mean end of tape, but this seems more like a tape error. Try cleaning the tape. For scsi, make sure the termintor is OK. Make sure the cables are connected fine, etc.

Have a look at the "columnspec" directive in amanda.conf to make these lines a bit more readable.
