Something you have probably already checked. Is the tape write protect
switch on ?

Subject: nst0, read only filesystem!?

Hi guys,

I'm trying to set up an Amanda box for one of our remote locations using
an older Sony DDS-4 drive. I have some time to set it up, and it's a lot
simpler setup than my first install, but I'm getting stuck trying to
make a tape definition:

# amtapetype -e 20G -f /dev/nst0
amtapetype: could not open /dev/nst0: Read-only file system

I get the same result using /dev/st0. Does anyone know why it would say
something like this? I've checked the device permissions, and they're
the same as on my primary (working) backup server. This makes me think
it may be a problem with this Sony TSL-11000 unit.

Anyone have any ideas of what else I can try?

Graeme
