Just did the survey and wanted to expend a bit. We have 17 Servers, RH, Solaris and IRIX based with the clients generally being Solaris and IRIX, but will backup the odd RH or SUSE system and even one OS X box (want to piss of your MAC guy ? ask him what version of Linux OS X is.)
We backup to a variety of media, from DLT4000 up through LTO 3, most tape drives are single tape units though we now have 6 jukeboxes (as soon as I implement tape spanning 2.5.1 we'll be able to free up an SDLT320 in favor of a jukebox already running on the same box, it was a capacity issue... maybe we have 18 amanda servers this week.). We have not used VTAPES. One feature that we've been very close to, and there are wrapper scripts that we could use, would be something that would allow amanda to quiess our Oracle databases when backing up specific partitions (or even the client), rather than a separate cron job that does this with "aproximate" timing. Amanda was installed and running for some period of time prior to my arrival at this site, so we have been amanda users since before 1998 but I don't know how long before. Needless to say, we are very happy with Amanda and our backup software and recommend it highly. --- Brian R Cuttler [EMAIL PROTECTED] Computer Systems Support (v) 518 486-1697 Wadsworth Center (f) 518 473-6384 NYS Department of Health Help Desk 518 473-0773
