I am running Amanda 2.3.0 on a server whose DLT drive failed two weeks ago. Since then, I've installed an HP Ultrium 448 tape drive. Backups appear to succeed from the reports mailed to me daily:
These dumps were to tape VOL84. Tonight's dumps should go onto 1 tape: VOL80. STATISTICS: Total Full Daily -------- -------- -------- Dump Time (hrs:min) 3:39 1:20 0:00 (0:01 start, 2:18 idle) Output Size (meg) 100934.5 100934.5 0.0 Original Size (meg) 100934.5 100934.5 0.0 Avg Compressed Size (%) -- -- -- Tape Used (%) 52.3 52.3 0.0 Filesystems Dumped 1 1 0 Avg Dump Rate (k/s) 12560.1 12560.1 -- Avg Tp Write Rate (k/s) 21471.0 21471.0 -- However, when trying to recover data from those tapes, an end of tape error occurs about midway through the tape when trying to extract from amrestore. The entire file list and directory structure is visible on the tape, but the files just aren't there. Has anyone experienced a similar issue? Is it just time to update to the latest version of Amanda?
