Hi all, I use amanda 2.5.2p1 on Ubuntu 8.04/64 bit as server, and 2.5.2p1 on several Linux (Ubuntu, RHEL, SLES) boxes, plus ZWC on two Windows (2003, XP) machines. The setup works nicely since 2 years for the Linux machines, and since several months for ZWC.
We shut down the XP box today, and I got the following strange messages from amcheck ('ubuntu2' is the amanda server): ----8<----------------------------------------------------------------------------- r...@ubuntu2:~# su - backup -c "amcheck Backup" Amanda Tape Server Host Check [snip] Amanda Backup Client Hosts Check -------------------------------- WARNING: Usage of fully qualified hostname recommended for Client localhost. WARNING: Usage of fully qualified hostname recommended for Client localhost. WARNING: Usage of fully qualified hostname recommended for Client localhost. ERROR: NAK sles1: user root from ubuntu2 is not allowed to execute the service selfcheck: Please add "amdump" to the line in /var/backups/.amandahosts on the client ERROR: NAK rhel3: user root from ubuntu2.my-domain.com is not allowed to execute the service selfcheck: Please add "amdump" to the line in /var/lib/amanda/.amandahosts on the client WARNING: winxp20: selfcheck request failed: No route to host ERROR: NAK ubuntu1: user root from ubuntu2.my-domain.com is not allowed to execute the service selfcheck: Please add "amdump" to the line in /var/backups/.amandahosts on the client Client check: 6 hosts checked in 18.267 seconds, 4 problems found (brought to you by Amanda 2.5.2p1) ----8<----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note that I'm *not* running amcheck as root, but as user 'backup'... The disklist contains two lines for the Win machine which is down: ----8<----------------------------------------------------------------------------- winxp20 D:/Analyzer/ zwc-compress winxp20 E:/Data/ zwc-compress ----8<----------------------------------------------------------------------------- If I comment out these two lines, the three "ERROR: NAK" messages just go away: ----8<----------------------------------------------------------------------------- r...@ubuntu2:~# su - backup -c "amcheck Backup" Amanda Tape Server Host Check [snip] Amanda Backup Client Hosts Check -------------------------------- WARNING: Usage of fully qualified hostname recommended for Client localhost. WARNING: Usage of fully qualified hostname recommended for Client localhost. WARNING: Usage of fully qualified hostname recommended for Client localhost. Client check: 5 hosts checked in 0.107 seconds, 0 problems found (brought to you by Amanda 2.5.2p1) ----8<----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Any idea how this effect is triggered and how it can be avoided *without* changing the disklist file? Or is it just an indication that I should update the Ubuntu server to something newer? Thanks in advance, Albrecht.
