Chuckle, details do help.  So that makes everything fit.

So your real problem then is likely that somehow, the 2.6.1p2 stuff is 
still running and it doesn't know about a lot of things the newer one can 
do.

How did you install the 3.2.2?  From the tarball, locally built, or from 
the distributions repo?
