Amanda users,

We are running a Solaris 9/sparc cluster with amanda 2.4.4p2.

We have been backing up a DLE using the HW name, rather than the
mount name, on a specific cluster member.

disklist
--------
bionsc1  /dev/md/bg-schost-1/rdsk/d311 comp-user

The volume no longer compresses enough to fit on a single tape
and I'm reluctant to split the DLE across tapes.

Using the mount name, /global/usr1, is problematic since we don't
know which cluster member it'll be mounted on (why we use the HW
name).

Using the HW id for the DLE where we exclude the large directory
seems ok, or at least the problems seem like they'll be in my
power to fix.

bionsc1   /global/usr1-others /dev/md/bg-schost-1/rdsk/d311 {
          user-tar
          exclude "./biosup/bioproj/people/dlong"
          }

bioquad    /usr1         comp-user

> amcheck -c bionsc bionsc1 /global/usr1-others

Amanda Backup Client Hosts Check
--------------------------------
ERROR: bionsc1: [Can't open exclude file '/usr/local/lib/amanda/exclude.gtar':
No such file or directory]
ERROR: bionsc1: [/opt/sfw/libexec/runtar is not SUID root]
ERROR: bionsc1: [can not read/write /opt/sfw/var/amanda/gnutar-lists/.: No such
file or directory]
Client check: 1 host checked in 0.103 seconds, 3 problems found

But backing up the large segment of the DLE/partition that I want
to split off is more problematic.

I can't use the /global/usr1/dir/dir/dir/ syntax because it may
not (is not currently) mounted on that system, and I can't walk
the directory path of an unmounted file system.

ERROR: bionsc1: [Can't open exclude file '/usr/local/lib/amanda/exclude.gtar':
No such file or directory]
ERROR: bionsc1: [could not access
/dev/md/bg-schost-1/rdsk/d311/biosup/bioproj/people/dlong (/global/usr1-dlong):
Not a directory]
ERROR: bionsc1: [/opt/sfw/libexec/runtar is not SUID root]

Is there a solution for this?

I guess I wouldn't mind overly much doubling up the DLEs in the
disklist...

bionsc1   /global/usr1-others /dev/md/bg-schost-1/rdsk/d311 {
              }

bionsc2   /global/usr1-others /dev/md/bg-schost-1/rdsk/d311 {
              }

but that is very ineligant.

                                                thank you,

                                                Brian
