I think the best approach is already outlined on the bug in comment #4: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=240409#c4 The biggest problem seems to be reading the chapter offsets from the .m4b files, you may want to make some research how these are stored and how they can be read - Amarok uses TagLib exclusively for metadata extraction, so preferably TagLib-based solution could be found. If you don't find a feasible solution to read the chapters after reasonable time invested, you may want to consider picking another junior-job that is actually "junior".
