In general, thanks for the replies. It did indeed turn out to be
messages stuck in the postfix queue, server appears to be humming along
fine now (I say 'appears,' because I no longer have root access to that
box. My manager, who wouldn't know Amavis if it smacked him over the
head, attributed the server bogging down to me 'fiddling' with configs
on the server and thus revoked my access. Fortunately I had logged in
from remote, while I was out sick, and fixed it before he changed
passwords. But all that's another story...). I don't have access to
the captured output of 'mailq' I made for direct quoting (see above),
but I believe there was a notice something to the effect of 'Bad end of
<something> - message may be sent multiple times' attached to the
offending messages.
So thanks again, I didn't think about checking postfix, especially since
the messages -had- arrived at their destinations properly. The user has
since been strongly 'encouraged' to use .jpg and/or .gif formats instead
of .bmp, and has been advised to keep non-work-related mailings of this
type off the company server ("Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo they just loooooove
handling mails like this, honest." :> ).
Off-topic... any of ya'll just happen to know of any places in the Salt
Lake City/Provo, Utah area looking for a Linux admin, perchance...? ;)
