Backup MX should be made aware of valid recipient addresses.
With Postfix there are two options:
- use relay_recipient_maps to list all valid addresses, if at all possible;
- if the former is not possible, use address verification
  (http://www.postfix.org/ADDRESS_VERIFICATION_README.html)
- if not of these is possible, don't use backup MX at all
