Thanks for the reply Noel.  All i am changing is the $sql_dsn_lookup  
in amavisd.conf file.  This file was previously adjusted with my  
default settings.
When I comment it out and restart amavisd-new everything is fine.  I  
have not idea why postfix smtp process is behaving like this when I  
ask amavis to do sql lookup for user settings....Please help
