actually, clamscan as a backup is SO MUCH SLOWER, that is is useless as 
a backup scanner.  amavisd never finishes, it always times out, and the 
worst problem, is for each and every clamscan running, it takes 100% of 
the cpu.

a two chip dual core (8 cpu's) running 8 amavisd services will take 100% 
of all 8 cpu's.  you can't hardly do a mailq (you can't), you can't even 
tail the mail log to see what is happening.

try it sometime.  I suggest that it be disabled as a default on 
amavisd.conf.
