What about a user with k="a", v="b|v=c", and another with k="a|v=b" and v="c" ?
These both end up with the same key.
On another note, the locking mechanism seems pretty complex to me; for a
caching layer, it adds a whole lot of behavior. Are the characteristics of the
system such that we expect a lot of different threads to both create users and
query for them?
