Bram de Kruijff commented on AMDATU-436:
----------------------------------------
Thoughts.. Agree on we need some support. I'd suggest to stick with specific
providers until there is a sensible abstraction. Would be interesting to see if
we can work with jclouds on that one! Not sure about JPA as it feels a little
too low level / geared towards relational models. On the other hand, to
complicate matters, I'd like something alike for graph oriented storage as well
:)

> We need support for the different "Table" stores that are available on the
> different cloud providers. At least we need to support SimpleDB on Amazon,
> but an abstraction would be better.
> To me it's unclear at this moment if an abstraction makes sense though,
> because each provider has different features (such as querying) so it might
> be hard to come up with an API that is flexible enough.
> There are two things we should at least look at:
> -JPA: there is work being done to use JPA on non-relation stores (e.g.
> Hibernate OGM)
> This is also an important aspect of Java EE 7.
> -jclouds: Some work has been done but it's not available yet. We should ping
> Adrian about this.
> Another question is if the casandra support should be abstracted by this API.
> It makes some sense, but it would make it harder to work with casandra
> specific features.
> What are your thoughts?
