This happens for example when the VM in which Amdatu runs is terminated without the 'shutdown' command. In this case the Cassandra process is not terminated, but since the ace process launcher receives an update of the config for this proces, it launches another process. In case of Cassandra this is not acceptable, running Cassandra twice can cause corrupted data files. It should be forced taht the process is only launched once.
