It seems to be a common perceived problem that building Amforth requires the Atmel assembler that is proprietary, only runs on Windows, is not open source, may contain traces of nuts, etc. Would there be any value is writing a simple portable assembler in (e.g.) Python that could build Amforth from sources? The assembler syntax is fairly simple, and it looks like a simple two pass assembler could do the job.
