Have you ever heart of busybox and its court battles? They won
all of them, got all sources plus money (for the lawers). And lost
time to make new stuff.

Linux is a very good example too. Companies
have to disclose the sources to be part of the 
kernel. Even Microsoft understood this (hyper-v).
Nvidia is on its way, it seems.

Disputing the success of Linux is ... a waste of time.
