Well, try to select a new nick each time you're scrolling up or down. Just
after you scrolled a bit. I know, it doesn't solve the problem, but it gives
you the possibility to go through the userlist without 'large' jumpings :).
Another advantage is, it reduces the probability that the selected nick
parts the channel (...in this case the userlist would jump to the first one
AFAIK).

This would be of course the best solution. I think, the 'selected-nick'-
handling was planned as a feature, but sometimes it's really annoying.
At least it should be an option in the prefs... =)
