Okay, first, do an ignore on the hostmask, not the nick, that will generally
solve your problems.

/ignore *!*ident@*.aol.com ignore someone with [EMAIL PROTECTED]
/ignore *!*[EMAIL PROTECTED] ignore me specifically no matter what my nick is
/ignore *!*@amicon.net ignore everyone on my system no matter the nick
                              or the ident.

Some servers support the /silence command

That is an IGNORE on the SERVER end.

Used the same way as /ignore basically, but anything they send is cut off
at the server level. Meaning they cannot flood you with crap even though
you are not watching using /ignore.

/silence nick!*ident@*.host.com

/silence *!*[EMAIL PROTECTED] This would silence me no matter the nick

to remove the silence entry, add a '-' in front of the mask.
type /silence to list your silence entry.

These types of bans are not saved, and each time you connect they are clear.

Then, there is the all-time mother of all ignores.

/mode yournickhere +d

On many IRCds the +d mode works great. It means DEAF. And when enabled,
you can no longer hear ANY channel chatter...

//mode WarNPeace +d

"I'm not listening nanananananaaaah pfffffffffth =P~"

Have fun,

John
