Gosh now I feel old/odd. My first job outside the family business was helping in a TV repair shop, about 1954. You guys speak as if you barely remember.

I think it goes back to the day of early TV sets were the cord female plug was riveted to the back plate. I remember a TV tech at our house around 1951 complaining that he left his cheater cord back at the shop.

What is the origin of the name "cheater cord"?

No fair Googling!
