I just arrived in Europe with a G5500 and was successfully able to convert the controller to 220v simply by moving the wire connected to pin 2 on the KT-30 transformer to pin 3. That's all it takes. If EA4CYG's wire is on pin 3, I would guess that someone has already converted it to 220v operation (perhaps without changing the plug to a European connector?).
To be sure that you connect to the correct pin, measure the resistance with an ohm meter between pins 0 and 2 and then 0 and 3. The resistance between 0 and 3 should be significantly more (almost double) the resistance between 0 and 2. 73, Bill NZ5N/OM3BD PS - I am now QRV from OM land on HF but not yet on the sats, due to some antenna problems. --- On Wed, 6/1/11, Bill Dzurilla <billdz....@yahoo.com> wrote: > From: Bill Dzurilla <billdz....@yahoo.com> > Subject: RE: [amsat-bb] Re: G5500 change voltage supply > To: amsat-bb@amsat.org, "Dee" <morse...@optonline.net> > Cc: ea4...@amsat.org > Date: Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 1:43 PM > The pdf say "G5500" in handwriting > and I know a guy who says he did this mod on a G5500. > But obviously the KT-30 must be a different transformer. > > 73, Bill > > --- On Wed, 6/1/11, Dee <morse...@optonline.net> > wrote: > > > From: Dee <morse...@optonline.net> > > Subject: RE: [amsat-bb] Re: G5500 change voltage > supply > > To: "'Bill Dzurilla'" <billdz....@yahoo.com>, > amsat-bb@amsat.org > > Cc: ea4...@amsat.org > > Date: Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 1:24 PM > > Look closer--Wrong rotor and I > > imagine you jump the other connections > > together to have the voltage correct. > > Again, Check the G5500 manual. > > Dee > > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: amsat-bb-boun...@amsat.org > > [mailto:amsat-bb-boun...@amsat.org] > > On > > Behalf Of Bill Dzurilla > > Sent: Wednesday, June 01, 2011 12:53 PM > > To: amsat-bb@amsat.org > > Cc: ea4...@amsat.org > > Subject: [amsat-bb] Re: G5500 change voltage supply > > > > Here is the mod to change Yaesu rotors to 220v: > > http://www.hamcity.com/store/pc/catalog/pdf/220vconversion.pdf > > > > But perhaps yours has a different transformer if it > uses > > pin 3 for 117v.
