Yes, that's ok. GDB cannot help on such errors I think. The app is terminated by X because the X server gets a bad command from it. Because the program exits gdb cannot get any bt.
A progam exit is quite different from receiving a signal (a Segfault for example). It is more like a normal program termination, only the exit code is different.
