well, that is a nice idea to manage 404 pages.. Sander's idea is good, I'd propose a 5 second delay instead of 10, have a message like "the page you are trying to access doesn't exist, the website has changed, we'll redirect you shortly to the main page".. the 404 page needs to be a 404 page so people know the link is broken, we need to say the website changed, not moved (moved means new domain) and we need to tell people they'll be redirected.. maybe I forgot something, maybe what I said is not perfect and advices are welcome.. and probably my sentence needs to be rewritten

Maybe the easiest way is a .htaccess that redirect all 404 pages to the
index of the new website ?

I'd say redirect to a page that links (and after 10 seconds
automatically goes to perhaps) to a page that says the website has
moved. (And maybe put a script in place that checks the referrer, and if
the referrer is amsn.sf.net or amsn.sourceforge.net send an e-mail or
whatever so we can fix the broken links.
