Yes, but it's a lot of extra work, now you need to look at the history,
find s asuitable place for the branching, and review each commit, deciding
which ones should go in the 0.96 branch.. the more we wait, the more
difficult it will become, so doing it prior to "the big change" is imo a
far better idea.

we decided to create a branch for the 0.96 development before we make
those big changes of cleaning the code, right ? and for a good reason,
