Sorry... commit 6826 is not causing the trouble indeed. The thing seems to be much older, but behavior changed in 6794.
Please note that the webcam does actually work, despite of the error message. (It didn't at first, but it turned out that something I changed locally was the cause for that, so I reverted that change.) Pre-6794 I have a correct channel list, and a different error message: 'Error opening device.' That seems to be very old. It is there even before 6511.
