Hey :) Your situation sounds similar to problems we experienced running Analog on big log files (3.5Gb). Ultimately, we decided to break the log files up, but before we did, we eventually traced the apparent "hang" to a really bad case of swap-space-thrashing.
Increasing the available swap space by a Gb or so sped things up greatly.
