A more detailed explanation is in the FAQ somewhere, but it boils down to this:

There is no such information as "visitor" in the logs (usually).

When someone claims they can identify "visitors" and "visitor paths" from standard web 
server logs, usually THEY ARE LYING.

The data they show is usually some sort of "best guess" basic on statistical analysis 
and rules that are more or less valid. They don't know for sure, because that would be 
impossible given the raw data. But that's something they never tell freely and usually 
don't admin even if pressed.

(It IS possible to collect data like that, but it usually requires logins, session 
tracking done by the server and/or application etc. AND that data must be logged).

Sorry for the rant. I used to work with real statisticians.
