Yep, this appears to just be true. Once I took the amazed code
from
http://code.google.com/p/apps-for-android/
and played a random lightsaber swing in the background, the game was
very bouncy. :)
So I ignored readings until after the sound completed, and turned up
my thresholds rather a lot.
