Hi,
I've been messing around a bit with the android source. I'm not sure
if this is better to ask in the android porting group, but it seems
noobish so I thought I'd ask here. I was wondering if there's a
comprehensive(ish) guide somewhere to adding new vendor
configurations? It seems like there's a lot involved in this (the
lunch command, putting various files in the /vendor directory, etc.)
that I can't find a lot of documentation for.

There's lots of "porting" tutorials that require you to check out
basically a fork of a particular android branch thats been made for a
particular platform, but that isn't really -porting-, thats just
checking out someone else's port.
