Good words but let me just say a few things.

But this is very similiar to android Fun. If you do not win this
contest then don't you think that chances are that you may not get
funding if you there were an Android Fun? However, just because people
fail to see the potential of your app it doesn't mean is not a great
app.

Not opposed to this idea. The more platforms Android runs the more
market penetration android has and the more potential be really,
really, rich a la Google boys.

Not a bad idea. Although I would say that the top 500 or something
like that should get some help getting a device.

No family to support but I do have bills to pay. Until Android becomes
a ubiquitous platform we have to look at porting our applications, if
you can, to other devices. Plus, it will be  good to experiment on a
real market as soon as possible.
