if you are referring to spec sheets on e-commerce sites - well, they are often inadequate.

Perhaps "Java support" is a template item, added for phones based on other platforms, and someone feels the need to fill out this line just because it's there.

It's possible that a phone could run on an Android base without
exposing the ability to install new apps (a "dumb" vs "smart" phone).
Java would still be used to support the phone functions (menus,
directory, dialing, etc), though.

Hi all,

some Android phones do not have Java installed on them - that's
what their specs list. What does that mean? Isn't every app written
for an Android phone developed for a java runtime? What do these
phone lack?

Thanks
