As a child of a child psychologist, I suggest you get a major in education or child psychology. :-) But seriously, children all learn at different rates under different circumstances, depending on where their interests lie. Without some seriously specific targeting and prefabricating, your chance of success is fairly slim. I used to teach a class for adults learning Java (using Eclipse), and that challenges with Eclipse alone were fairly problematic. If you can boot directly into a minimalistic dev environment with examples in place, that would be a place to start.
