To answer this poster's question: NO, you're not the only one fighting with the layout editor on MAC.

There's no _OBVIOUS_ way to move the children of a view to the top level LinearLayout. Drag and drop just doesn't work. The child view refuses to drop into it's place as a child of the top level LinearLayout object. Yech. Any ideas?
