No, we can't explain it for you. We might be able to help you figure it out, though. NullPointerException is what you get if the virtual machine encounters (guess what) a null pointer. The most common causes of it are such things as passing a method an argument that has never been initialized, or, more precisely, was initialized to null.
So you need to double check: what did you pass to setContentView? Was it properly initialized? Did you pass it a View? Was the View properly and fully initialized? If you passed it an int, can Android find the resource with that ID?
