Gee, Gmail went bad and sent the e-mail before I had the chance to type it :)

@ Disconnect: I am a developer and am wondering what's the benefit of
having root access to the device? I don't think I need to tamper with
the file system directly or something. All I want to do is deploy my
app on the device and check it works as expected, for the rest I have
the emulator, right? Right? ;(

@ Xavier: Yes, I did the update from the phone. Basically, I don't
know how and when and if it downloaded anything because it took me
half a day to figure out that once I set up EDGE[1] it wouldn't go
off. So when I got the dialog (after I got the reply "it's safe") and
hit "Update" the phone restarted immediately, updated itself in a few
seconds, restarted again and that was it.

[1] Btw, how do I turn off EDGE (except for typing an invalid APN)?
I've googled extensively and either google's not my friend, or there
simply isn't a solution to this.

Thanks again,
Stoyan
