Having read further down the list one of the changes to the framework is;

- Support third party updates of system applications. New menu options 
in Settings->ManageApplications to list updated system applications. 

Does this mean I will be able to replace the Email app with K9 on a G1 
when a cupcaked firmware is deployed?
