I've also been getting a fair number of these over the last three weeks.

Is it Market 3.4.4, the Checkout / Wallet merge, is it something else like
a blown out router?

Those who know won't tell, and those who tell (support) don't know.

Interestingly enough, these errors used to trigger a cancel notification so
the user try again - now sometimes they don't, so the app keeps waiting for
the order to complete. From the users point of view, that's adding insult
to injury.

Oh, and this issue was already "fixed" last September, when for a day or
two almost all orders ended up like this.
