Solved.

For others who have the same problem:

Newsreader is NOT in Sample Projects in Eclipse and cannot be imported
via Import Existing Project.
You have to downlad the zip, create an empty project but WITHOUT an
activity class.
Then close the project, paste the newsreader.zip folder structure over
your project, reopen and change java COMPILER to 1.6 NOT 1.5.
