I found this, thought it might be useful to others: ActivityManager.MemoryInfo.availMem. Also, I see there is a threshold value. So I see a use case where one can use these values to clean up the garbage/cache/something else so as to accommodate other Apps instead of allowing the system to kick us out of RAM.
